WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

INTEGRATION SPECIALISTS

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic modality that combines traditional talk therapy with hypnosis. Every session includes a brief segment of hypnosis towards the end of a session. The client undergoes hypnosis for about 15 minutes every session, but this time can vary depending on the presenting issue. An MP3 of the hypnosis portion is recorded and provided to clients for private home use afterwards.

Hypnotherapy’s unique approach to therapy leaves the client walking out of the office feeling more relaxed and empowered with a deep sense of well-being afterwards.

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is simply a state of focused concentration that can feel similar to a guided meditation. There are many depth levels when experiencing hypnosis. One does not need to achieve extreme depth to benefit from it.

The experience is different for each individual. Being in hypnosis is nothing like the stage hypnosis that is commonly seen. That is only one form of hypnosis. Other ways of experiencing it are times such as feeling relaxed at the beach, being on auto-pilot when driving, or being completely immersed in a movie. It can also be similar to times when you are daydreaming or ‘zoned out’ so to speak.

Hypnosis is experienced by everyone on a daily basis. Yes, you have been in hypnosis already today! When you first woke up this morning, during the dreamy-drowsy state before having your cup of joe, this is one of the numerous times we are experiencing hypnosis each day. Right before we fall asleep is another time we are experiencing hypnosis.

Scientifically, it is during the alpha and theta state, which is between the beta (fully awake) and delta (deep asleep) that we call the hypnotic state. With hypnotherapy, we trigger this alpha and theta state and use it to your advantage. Alpha and the theta is known as the learning states, where the brain can best rewire itself and take in new information. It is a suggestible state, where only positives are given, so your subconscious readily absorbs all this in. The subconscious is more open during this state because this is when our critical thinking mind takes a back seat and relaxes.

COMMON QUESTIONS

DOES INSURANCE COVER HYPNOTHERAPY?

Generally no but depending on your carrier, they may provide reimbursement. As hypnotherapists, we do not provide diagnosis codes or superbills as we do not diagnose. See below to check with your carrier for reimbursement instructions.

Insurance Reimbursement for Hypnotherapy:

Ask your insurance carrier if they cover/reimburse for hypnotherapy or alternative medicine. Hypnotherapy is considered out-of-network. If they say yes, ask what is needed. I’m not able to provide a superbill or diagnosis codes but can provide an invoice if they approve reimbursement.

In general, insurance companies who reimburse will need a copy of the paid invoice along with a note from your medical doctor or licensed professional providing approval for you to have hypnotherapy for stress/anxiety/insomnia (or whatever specific condition you’re coming in for).

DOES HYPNOSIS REALLY WORK?

According to the American Psychological Association, ‘Hypnosis continues to show promise in reducing pain and soothing anxiety’ (https://www.apa.org/monitor/2011/01/hypnosis.aspx). Pain & anxiety are only a couple of the boundless ways hypnosis is proving to work effectively.

Hypnosis is being acknowledged and used more each day within the field of licensed practitioners such as psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and psychologists. The use of hypnosis in the therapeutic setting has achieved great success in helping one to create desired change. It is a tool that has been in existence for centuries to help with behavior modification. Hypnotherapists uses hypnosis to help bring about relief and create healthy change for their clients using a 100% natural and safe process.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?

Each case is unique depending on the issue at hand.  HYPNOSIS IS NOT A ONE-SESSION FIX STOP.  Generally, a minimum number of sessions is recommended for lasting results. Powerful results can be achieved after just one session while another may prefer on-going sessions over a given time. It is common to have 3-6 sessions surrounding any given issue.

CAN EVERYONE BE HYPNOTIZED?

Yes. There is a common misconception that some people are not able to go into hypnosis due to the common Stage Hypnosis we tend to associate it with.  Everyone experiences hypnosis daily, we are simply triggering this 100% natural state to work towards your advantage.

IS HYPNOSIS MIND CONTROL?

No.  No matter how deep of a state you are under and I suggest, 'You are a fish,' chances are, your mind will reject this suggestion.  It is a two-way street with hypnosis.  Your mind only takes in suggestions it is willing to accept.
